| Bequest To Endowed Scholarship |
Ralph '59 and Sharon Hillquist both had long and interesting careers at the GM Proving Ground in Milford, Michigan. Although Ralph recently passed away, Sharon continues to live in the scenic northern Michigan area of Beulah and is active in the community. Ralph specialized in Noise and Vibration at the Proving Ground. Sharon was instrumental in the hiring and coaching of a great many employees, especially co-op students, over the years. Many a GMI graduate owes his or her start to Sharon's insight and helpfulness.
In 2004 the Hillquists created an endowed scholarship to help Kettering University students afford to study at Kettering. Their gift to fund the scholarship is invested along the lines of Kettering's other endowment funds, and 5% of the fund's value is awarded each year. Sharon will continue to receive the student's thank you letter and photo each time the award is given.
Ralph always felt good to know that he and Sharon were helping bright engineering students along in their quest for a top notch education. His opinion was that our world needs educated bright minds working on the challenges out there.
Sharon: Education changes lives. It is crucial that we educate future generations for a better career and life and for a better world for all of us. To expand our help to students in the future, Ralph and I decided to provide even more financial support through our estate plan. This will allow more scholarships to be given to additional students. Ralph was glad to know that our endowed scholarship will always be there to help students continue to improve the world of today...and of tomorrow.
